Enquire Now

The DJI AP1 Parachute is an emergency recovery system for the DJI Matrice 5TD, the aircraft that flies from the DJI Dock 4. If the aircraft's attitude or speed becomes abnormal, it stops the motors and deploys the canopy automatically, with a response time of around 600 ms. A remote pilot can also stop the motors and deploy it manually from DJI FlightHub 2.

Under canopy the aircraft descends at 6 m/s or less, from a minimum effective deployment height of 35 m above ground. Once down, the aircraft sounds an alarm and flashes its lights, and its position shows on the FlightHub 2 map for recovery.

A parachute recovery system is a recognised ground risk mitigation and can strengthen a safety case for operations over people or beyond visual line of sight. DJI tested the AP1 against the ASTM F3322 parachute standard across more than 45 deployments, in hover and at full speed. Talk to Prisma about how it fits into your CASA approval pathway.

Sold separately, including as a replacement for a deployed unit.

Key Specs:

  • Approx. 107 g (excluding bracket), 147 g installed with connection cable and bracket

  • 92 × 70 × 56 mm (excluding bracket)

  • Supports up to 3,050 g aircraft max take-off weight

  • Automatic deployment response approx. 600 ms

  • Stabilised descent speed of 6 m/s or less

  • Minimum effective deployment altitude of 35 m above ground

  • Automatic deployment on abnormal attitude or speed, plus manual deployment from DJI FlightHub 2

  • No automatic deployment close to the dock, to protect nearby equipment

  • Audible and visual alarms after deployment

  • 30 s backup power

  • Continuous self-check with alerts via the DJI FlightHub 2 Health Management System

  • Mounts on top of the Matrice 5TD Accessory Mount and connects to the aircraft's USB-C E-Port V3

  • IP55 ingress protection rating

  • -40°C to 50°C operating temperature

  • 0 to 5,000 m operating altitude

  • Max flight time approx. 55 minutes with the parachute fitted (59 minutes without accessories, at 15 m/s)

Includes:

  • DJI AP1 Parachute × 1

  • DJI Matrice 5TD Series Accessory Mount × 1

With the parachute fitted, the Matrice 5TD switches off its top mmWave radar and narrows its rear and upper vision sensors, so it is less able to detect small obstacles behind and above it.

Single-use system. The unit must be replaced after deployment, and DJI must inspect the aircraft before it flies again. A new parachute is activated in the DJI Enterprise App. DJI recommends retiring the parachute three years after activation.
